Fissure Sealants
Children’s teeth are more susceptible to decay than adult teeth as the enamel is softer and more porous. This means it does not take as long for the acid to wear through the enamel. Adults with cavity-free teeth may also benefit.
Our Dentists or Oral Health Therapist may recommend fissure sealants to protect the hard-to-reach grooves in children’s and adult molar teeth.
The sealant seals over the deep grooves that retain bacteria and food and makes cleaning easier. This reduces the amount of decay as teeth are generally being cleaned properly every time.

Taking Care of Your Teeth
We know that the major part of taking care of your teeth and oral health happens at home so we give expert advice on how best to brush your teeth daily and other methods of plaque control.
In between regular visits to the dentist, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems.
These include:
- Brush thoroughly twice a day and floss daily
- Eat a balanced diet and limit snacks between meals
- Use dental products which contain fluoride, including toothpaste
- Rinse with a fluoride mouth rinse if advised to do so
- Make sure children under 12 drink fluoridated water or take a fluoride supplement if they live in an non-fluoridated area
- Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams
- Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months
