Preventative Dentistry

Good oral hygiene and regular dental care is key to preventing gum disease.

During an exam, we carefully evaluate the following:

  • Each tooth
  • Gum tissue
  • Bite (occlusion)
  • Jaw health
  • Medications/medical history
  • Current dental restorations

Children

Caring for all the family is at the heart of Mawson Dental Care.

Your child’s early dental experiences form their lifetime approach to dental hygiene and care. Routine dental check-ups from an early age can help to eliminate the fear of the dentist and establish a good dental routine to follow throughout their lives.

Our dental practice is designed to relieve the anxiety of going to the dentist, and all our staff are excellent with children. This makes us the perfect place to ensure that the whole family has healthy teeth.

Taking care of your teeth

We know that the major part of taking care of your teeth and oral health happens at home so we give expert advice on how best to brush your teeth daily and other methods of plaque control.

In between regular visits to the dentist, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems.

In between regular visits to the dentist, there are simple steps that each of us can take to greatly decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems.

These include:

  • Brush thoroughly twice a day and floss daily
  • Eat a balanced diet and limit snacks between meals
  • Use dental products which contain fluoride, including toothpaste
  • Rinse with a fluoride mouth rinse if advised to do so
  • Make sure children under 12 drink fluoridated water or take a fluoride supplement if they live in an non-fluoridated area
  • Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams
  • Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months

Our dental hygienists are an integral part of our dental team. We aim to help you keep your teeth for a lifetime. Therefore, preventative dental care is of utmost importance.
